Recreation, Sport, & Tourism Management (RSTM) - The program is designed to provide foundational and experiential learning experiences that prepare students for a wide array of park, recreation, sport, and tourism positions.

COAPRT Standard 7.01. - Students graduating from the program shall demonstrate the following entry-level knowledge: a) the nature and scope of the relevant park, recreation, tourism or related professions and their associated industries; b) techniques and processes used by professionals and workers in these industries; and c) the foundation of the profession in history, science and philosophy.
  • Outcome:
    • 7.01(a): Students will be able to demonstrate entry-level knowledge of the nature and scope of the profession for recreation management. • 7.01(b): Students will be able to demonstrate entry-level knowledge of techniques and processes used by professionals and workers in recreation settings. • 7.01(c): Students will be able to demonstrate the entry-level knowledge of the foundation of the profession in history, science and philosophy.

    • 7.01(a): Four assigned quizzes in the course: RSTM 104 - Recreation, Sport, and Tourism in Healthy Communities. • 7.01(b): Supervisor Evaluation Assignment in RSTM 280 - Practicum AND Trends or Issues Poster in the course: RSTM 485 - Trends and Policies in Recreation, Sport and Tourism. • 7.01(c): Seven Time Diary Assignments in the course: RSTM 104 - Recreation, Sport, and Tourism in Healthy Communities.
  • Result:
    • 7.01(a): 92.1% of students earned an average of B(80%) or better on the four assigned quizzes. • 7.01(b): 92% of students earned a B (80%) or better on the Supervisor Eval assignment in RSTM 280. RSTM 485 was not offered in 2023-24. • 7.01(c): 100% of students earned an average of C (70%) or higher on the Time Diary Assignments.
COAPRT Standard 7.02. - Students graduating from the program shall be able to demonstrate the ability to design, implement, and evaluate services that facilitate targeted human experiences and that embrace personal and cultural dimensions of diversity.
  • Outcome:
    • 7.02(a): Students will demonstrate the design, implementation, and evaluation planning of a recreation program or service experience for clientele that embraces personal and/or cultural diversity. • 7.02(b): Students graduating from the program will be able to demonstrate the application of knowledge to facilitate recreational programs or service experiences with diverse clientele and cultures.

COAPRT Standard 7.03. - Students graduating from the program shall be able to demonstrate entry-level knowledge about operations and strategic management/administration in parks, recreation, tourism and/or related professions..
  • Outcome:
    Students graduating from the program will be able to demonstrate the application of entry-level concepts, principles and procedures of operations and strategic administration to professional practice settings.

  • Result:
    (1) 92% of students earned a B (80%) or better on the assignment. (2) RSTM 490 was not taught in 2023-24.
