Community Recreation and Event Planning. The Recreation and Park Management Program (housed in the Department of Community and Therapeutic Recreation) at UNC Greensboro, was initially accredited in October of 1981. The program prepares students in two concentrations: 1) Community Recreation and Event Planning (CREP), and 2) Recreational Therapy (RT). The CREP program provides students with the knowledge base necessary to become a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP). Students in CREP take courses such as program planning, leadership, parks and recreation facilities development, management, and financing and budgeting. In addition, CREP students minor in business administration, communication studies, sociology, entrepreneurship, or sport coaching. The Recreational Therapy program provides students with the requirements necessary to become nationally certified (CTRS) and state (NC) licensed (LRT). RT students take courses such as assessment, disabling conditions, clinical procedures, facilitation techniques, trends and issues in RT, abnormal psychology, human development, anatomy/physiology, helping skills, and medical terminology. RT students also can minor in areas such as human development, gerontology, psychology, or sign language.
COAPRT Standard 7.01. - Students graduating from the program shall demonstrate the following entry-level knowledge: a) the nature and scope of the relevant park, recreation, tourism or related professions and their associated industries; b) techniques and processes used by professionals and workers in these industries; and c) the foundation of the profession in history, science and philosophy.
