The Recreation Services, Sport, and Hospitality Management core program is housed within the Health, Human Performance, and Recreation department. Emphasis areas include: Recreation and Sport Management, Therapeutic Recreation, Hospitality Management, and Community and Worksite Wellness.

COAPRT Standard 7.01. - Students graduating from the program shall demonstrate the following entry-level knowledge: a) the nature and scope of the relevant park, recreation, tourism or related professions and their associated industries; b) techniques and processes used by professionals and workers in these industries; and c) the foundation of the profession in history, science and philosophy.

In the spring of 2023, 87.5% of students scored a 70% or higher on the job shadow assignment. In the fall of 2023, 73.33% of students scored a 70% or higher on the job shadow assignment. 7.01c: In the spring of 2023, 94% of students scored a 70% or higher on the course exam questions. Fall of 2023, 100% of students scored a 70% or higher on the course exam questions.

The Pittsburg State University Therapeutic Recreation program is an emphasis area within the Recreation Services, Sport, and Hospitality Management program. Students within this program are provided opportunities to work in the TR Ability Lab to gain experience in the community to implement research-based interventions while learning the APIED process.
