The Recreation Experience Management (REM) degree prepares you for careers in the recreation and experience industries. You’ll learn essential management skills in the multi-billion dollar recreation industry like tourism, outdoor recreation, natural resources, experiential training and sports management. The curriculum focuses on providing enjoyable human experiences through recreation, tourism, outdoor activities, and more. You’ll gain practical knowledge and skills through experiential learning opportunities. Choose from four concentrations and consider minors or certificates to enhance your expertise. COAPRT Standard 7.01. - Students graduating from the program shall demonstrate the following entry-level knowledge: a) the nature and scope of the relevant park, recreation, tourism or related professions and their associated industries; b) techniques and processes used by professionals and workers in these industries; and c) the foundation of the profession in history, science and philosophy.

  • Assessment Method:
    For academic year 2022-23, Standard 7.01 was measured through three assignments across three different classes for a total of 43 separate student artifacts. These assignments included an industry report, survey development and analysis, and one called "Take a Stand."
  • Result:
    Of the 43 separate artifacts, 38 met the outcome, 5 did not meet the outcome indicating an 88% pass rate for Standard 7.01.
COAPRT Standard 7.02. - Students graduating from the program shall be able to demonstrate the ability to design, implement, and evaluate services that facilitate targeted human experiences and that embrace personal and cultural dimensions of diversity.

  • Assessment Method:
    For academic year 2022-23, Standard 7.02 was measured through one assignment for a total of 10 separate student artifacts. The assignment was a facility research assignment within Facility Planning and Environmental Design course.
  • Result:
    Of the 10 separate artifacts, 9 met the outcome, 1 did not meet the outcome indicating a 90% pass rate for Standard 7.02.
COAPRT Standard 7.03. - Students graduating from the program shall be able to demonstrate entry-level knowledge about operations and strategic management/administration in parks, recreation, tourism and/or related professions..
  • Outcome:
    Students graduating from the program shall be able to demonstrate entry-level knowledge about operations and strategic management/administration in parks, recreation, tourism and/or related professions.
  • Measure Type:
    Direct
  • Assessment Method:
    For academic year 2022-23, Standard 7.03 was measured through one assignment for a total of 17 separate student artifacts. The assignment was a professional interview assignment in our Administration course.
  • Result:
    Of the 17 separate artifacts, 15 met the outcome, 2 did not meet the outcome indicating a 88% pass rate for Standard 7.03.
