The Bachelor's degree in Recreation is comprised of a core set of classes and courses split generally between concentration courses and major electives. Graduates completing one of these concentrations are eligible to apply for national and state certification. While the general recreation degree is the most flexible in terms of choosing related electives, students may instead elect to complete a more specialized course of study in one of our two approved concentrations within the B.S. Recreation Degree.

COAPRT Standard 7.01. - Students graduating from the program shall demonstrate the following entry-level knowledge: a) the nature and scope of the relevant park, recreation, tourism or related professions and their associated industries; b) techniques and processes used by professionals and workers in these industries; and c) the foundation of the profession in history, science and philosophy.

    Students analyze an assortment of commonly used RT assessments using an Assessment Analysis Report. The purpose of this assignment is to provide a mechanism for each student to review current and available Recreation Therapy related assessments and to create a written resource for future professional use. You will personally complete and learn about various TR assessments. Upon review of the assessments in the Burlingame & Blaschko text (Red Book) and those offered by the instructor, choose your top 3 favorites utilizing the criteria provided in class.

    Assignment #1 - Develop and calculate program level budgets - in teams of 4. Four different programs will be integrated into one single program level budget. Determine and calculate numbers of offerings for each program, identify a minimum of 15 supplies, identify staffing, set revenue projections and determine costs (supplies, salaries) using Excel or Google Sheets. Assignment #2 - Individual demonstration of competence via midterm exam using Excel or Google Sheets to determine program level budget calculations (staffing, revenue, expenditures and profit or loss)
