The Recreation, Parks and Tourism curriculum offers core classes that provide students with the skills needed to become recreational professionals in a variety of settings. Students then choose a concentration in outdoor recreation and leadership, tourism and special events and/or recreation therapy (some double - or triple concentrate). Working closely with their academic advisor they create a schedule and coursework that meets the needs of their future career goals.
COAPRT Standard 7.01. - Students graduating from the program shall demonstrate the following entry-level knowledge: a) the nature and scope of the relevant park, recreation, tourism or related professions and their associated industries; b) techniques and processes used by professionals and workers in these industries; and c) the foundation of the profession in history, science and philosophy.
- Outcome:
Recreation, Parks and Tourism students will demonstrate competency in foundational knowledge associated with the profession by recalling, explaining, and recognizing: The purpose and benefits of leisure services and current trends.

A combination of embedded test questions, and reaction journal entries across two separate classes (RCPT 112 and RCPT 210)
- Result:
In RCPT112 embedded test questions, 91% of students achieved a score of 70% or better on this standard. In RCPT210 embedded test
questions, 85% of RCPT students achieved a score of 70% or better on this standard.
COAPRT Standard 7.02. - Students graduating from the program shall be able to demonstrate the ability to design, implement, and evaluate services that facilitate targeted human experiences and that embrace personal and cultural dimensions of diversity.

Recreation, Parks and Tourism students will demonstrate competency in program leadership by formulating and applying Program leadership and facilitation.

A combination of: observation rubric, and activity assignment rubrics assessed in two separate classes: RCPT 112 and RCPT 414
- Result:
In RCPT112 Program Observation Rubric 92% of students achieved a score of 70% or better on this standard. In RCPT414 Program Facilitation Rubric, 92% of students achieved a score of 70% or better on the program plan rubric.
COAPRT Standard 7.03. - Students graduating from the program shall be able to demonstrate entry-level knowledge about operations and strategic management/administration in parks, recreation, tourism and/or related professions..
- Outcome:
Recreation, Parks and Tourism students will demonstrate competency in administrative and management functions by recalling,
explaining and applying: Risk management skills.
- Measure Type:
Direct
- Assessment Method:
Embedded test questions and Risk Management Plan assignment rubrics. This standard was assessed in two separate classes: RCPT365, and RCPT 414.
- Result:
In RCPT365 100% of RCPT students received a score of 70% or higher on this standard. In RCPT414 93% of students received a score of 70% or higher on this standard.
COAPRT Standard 2.05.05
The program annually posts 7.0 series aggregated data and additional evidence reflecting program academic quality and student achievement on their program and/or departmental website. Such information shall be consistent with The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) requirements.
COAPRT Standard 3.06
The program has a practice of informing the public about the harm of degree mills and accreditation mills.
COAPRT Standard 3.07
The program has a practice of informing the public about their COAPRT accredited programs.
